Children through to seniors, first Sunday through to forty years in. Most of these meet every week; a few gather once a quarter. All of them are easier to join than you would think.
Fridays, 5:30 and 7:30.
College age to mid thirties.
Study, prayer and hospitality.
Singers, players and sound.
Practical help, close to home.
A game every other week.
Five groups, Tuesday to Thursday.
Sundays at 10:00.
Friday nights belong to the youth. We split into two groups:
Both groups also have their own Sunday School class during the morning service. Across the year there are stay-awakes, bowling, movie nights and concerts, and in the June/July holidays we run Teen Club, our outreach to teenagers in the area. Carlyle Adriaans leads it, with staff and volunteers alongside him.
From about college age into your mid thirties. The heart of it is the young adult cell groups, which meets at CBC on Wednesday evenings — 6:00 PM for early group, 7:30 PM for the second. Beyond that there are braais, hikes, formals and outings.
Women of Worth meets on a Saturday afternoon once a quarter. The point is an unhurried few hours: crafts, talks, life stories, an outing, and something good to eat. Past gatherings have included a train trip to Fish Hoek, soup on the shortest day of the year, and putt-putt in Green Point with group members ranging from 8 to 80.
The Musical Praise team leads the church every Sunday morning, alongside the people on sound, slides and lighting who make it work. The team trains: recent years have included vocal coaching and a songwriting session with Matt Redman. If you sing, play, or know your way around a desk, we would like to hear from you.
Most of this happens off our own property. Recent years have taken us to Rosmead Fisheries and Jewel of the East, and to Keurboom Park for Picnic in the Park and an Easter scavenger hunt. There is also a Trunk or Treat event each year that brings several hundred children and parents through.
Every other week there is a game, 5-a-side or 11-a-side, and it finishes with a short message. It is run by volunteers from among the young adults, and it has taken us into the Message Trust tournament and out to Blomvlei Baptist and Realistic Children’s Home. Jeremie Bokolomba leads it with Luís de Sousa, Jordan Ciambu and Jovani Ngabo.
Sunday is the whole church together. Cell groups are where community is built: a dozen or so people who meet in the week in between to eat, read the Bible, and pray for each other, so that no one has to walk through life alone. Groups are formed around shared demographics and/or location, making it easier to grow together with people in a similar season of life.
Sunday School starts at 10:00, half an hour into the service, so children go through once the morning is under way. There are separate classes for preschool and grades 1–2, 3–4, 5–7 and 8–12, each with its own teachers. In the June/July holidays we run Holiday Club, which last year brought over 80 children through the doors. Celest Bossr leads it.
Send us a message and we’ll put you in touch with whoever leads it.
